Paint Finishes
ALUCOBOND PVDF finishes are coated in accordance with AAMA 2605, signifying the highest performance exterior finish standard in the industry. AAMA 2605 finishes have the best chalk, humidity, and color change performance. Backed by ALUCOBOND’s 20-year warranty, SMP finishes meet AAMA 2604. ALUCOBOND has a 50+ year history of performance and offers best-in-class warranty coverage.
PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) finishes are available in two types: PVDF 2 and PVDF 3. PVDF 2 features a 2-coat system consisting of a primer and a color coat, while PVDF 3 includes a 3-coat system with a primer, a color coat, and a protective top coat. Renowned for their durability and strong performance characteristics, both systems are used to create high-quality solid, mica, or metallic finishes.
PVDF/FEVE Finish: This finish consists of two coats of PVDF and a clear coat of FEVE. In Spectra finishes, the FEVE coat enhances gloss levels and creates a dynamic visual effect. Depending on the viewing angle, different wavelengths of light are reflected, producing an ever-changing color gradient with striking iridescent highlights.
SMP (Silicone Modified Polyester) Paint Systems: SMP coatings are a blend of polyester and silicon intermediates, offering an excellent balance of exterior gloss and color retention. These coatings provide robust resistance to stains, chalking, ultraviolet radiation, weather, and humidity, making them a durable choice for exterior applications.
SDP (Siliconized Durable Polyester) Finishes: SDP finishes are a 3-coat, highly durable architectural coating available in a wide range of colors, gloss levels, and metallic or mica finishes. This high-tech polymer-based coating offers exceptional color and gloss weatherability. SDP finishes meet AAMA 2605 standards, ensuring long-lasting performance and visual appeal.
PVDF/FEVE Finish: The PVDF/FEVE finish consists of two coats of PVDF and a clear, transparent top coat of FEVE. This combination provides enhanced protection from the elements while preserving the aesthetic of the bare finish. In our Spectra finishes, the FEVE top coat offers a higher gloss level, and depending on the viewing angle, it reflects different wavelengths of light, resulting in a dynamic, ever-changing color gradient with iridescent highlights. Various tints can also be applied to the FEVE coat, broadening the color palette and further enhancing the visual appeal of the project.
Alucobond Sustainability
At ALUCOBOND®, sustainability is at the heart of our products, ensuring that we not only meet the demands of today but also preserve resources for future generations. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in every stage of our process—from production to end-of-life recycling.
Environmental Responsibility
ALUCOBOND® is designed with the environment in mind. We adhere to stringent environmental standards and continuously work to minimize waste, reduce energy consumption, and increase the recyclability of our products. The panels are fully recyclable, allowing them to be reintroduced into the production cycle at the end of their life. This aligns with our commitment to the circular economy and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
ALUCOBOND® products are certified with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) according to international ISO standards. This declaration, verified by an independent third party, provides detailed information about the environmental impact of our products, such as energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and water usage. The EPD supports building certifications like LEED®, ensuring that the materials you choose contribute to a sustainable and energy-efficient building.
Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)
We conduct comprehensive Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impact of our products from production through to disposal. By considering every stage of a building's lifecycle, from energy use during operation to the energy required to manufacture and transport materials, we help ensure that our products support long-term environmental goals.
Recycling & VOC Emissions
ALUCOBOND® is a 100% recyclable material. Both the aluminum skins and core material can be returned to the recycling loop, contributing to reducing waste and the need for new raw materials. The aluminum is particularly valuable in the recycling process, as it can be reused without loss of quality. Our manufacturing processes also minimize environmental impact by reducing VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions. ALUCOBOND® panels are coil-coated in a controlled environment where 99% of VOCs are captured and destroyed, ensuring no VOCs are released from installed panels.
LEED® & Other Certifications
ALUCOBOND® products are a recognized contributor to LEED® certification, which is one of the most respected sustainability ratings in the building industry. By incorporating our materials, building projects can earn LEED® points, helping reduce environmental impact and improving energy efficiency. ALUCOBOND® products are also compatible with other global sustainability certifications, such as BREEAM® and DGNB, further supporting eco-friendly building practices.
