  • Description

The Malco MB48B Pan Style Mini-Brake is designed for fabricating drip pans, register boxes, flashing corners, fascia details, and ductwork components directly in the field. With 16 removable plate-steel fingers and a full 48″ bending width, this portable brake delivers true box-and-pan capability without hauling a full-size shop brake.

The MB48B produces bends up to 135° in 22-gauge galvanized steel and other common sheet metals. Its 5/16″ plate-steel table apron and reinforced anvil frame provide consistent, uniform bends across the full width.

Weighing just under 100 lbs., the brake separates into table and anvil sections for easier transport. It can be used on a workbench, truck tailgate, or with optional legs for standing operation.

Adjustable setback and tension controls allow fine tuning for material thickness and temper, making it suitable for aluminum, copper, zinc, and coated steels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the MB48B different from the MB48A?

The MB48B is a true box-and-pan brake with 16 removable fingers, allowing fabrication of pans, boxes, and complex corners. The MB48A is a straight brake and cannot create boxed shapes.

What is the minimum bend depth?

  • In 22-gauge galvanized steel: 3/4″ minimum
  • In 28-gauge steel: 1/2″ minimum

How do I adjust setback?

Setback is the distance between the forward edge of the finger and the apron pivot.

Typical setback is 1–2 times material thickness.

To adjust:

  1. Let fingers rest on the table (not clamped).
  2. Loosen anvil position plate bolts.
  3. Move anvil to desired position.
  4. Retighten bolts.
  5. Ensure the anvil remains parallel to the apron.

How do I adjust tension?

The MB48B includes an adjustable strengthening rib.

Turn adjustment bolts clockwise to increase tension.

Turn counterclockwise to decrease.

Always mark original factory settings before adjustment.

Keep the anvil parallel across the full width for best results.

What is the minimum finger width?

The smallest removable finger is 2″, which sets the minimum bending width.

What flange heights can this brake produce?

The MB48B accommodates flange heights from 1/2″ to 3″.
