  • Description

The Malco SCSRC1 Stone Coated Steel Roofing Cutter delivers fast, precise cuts in stone coated steel shingles, shakes, and tile-style panels — including DECRA®, METRO®, and GERARD® profiles. Designed specifically for coated steel roofing systems, this guillotine-style cutter slices through the panel and lock seam in one smooth motion.

The compound leverage design and extended handle reduce cutting force by up to 30% compared to traditional guillotine cutters, making repetitive cuts easier on crews throughout the day.

Unlike abrasive saws, the shearing action creates a wiping effect on the zinc coating, helping seal the cut edge and resist corrosion in the field.

Built for durability, the hardened steel blade and die feature reversible cutting edges for twice the cutting life before replacement. The blade and die are also easily replaceable to maintain factory-level cutting performance.

With two adjustable leg lengths for multiple working heights, a large feed-through table surface for long angle cuts, and a lock-pin for safe transport, the SCSRC1 is designed for professional jobsite performance.

Malco SCSRC1 Stone Coated Steel Roofing Cutter

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials will the SCSRC1 cut?

The SCSRC1 is designed primarily for stone coated steel roofing panels, including popular profiles from DECRA®, METRO®, and GERARD®. It can also cut flashing and other flat metal materials.

It is not designed for asphalt shingles.

What is the maximum cutting length?

The maximum cross-cut capacity is 21″ from the fully open position.

The tool is not throatless and is not designed for lengthwise cuts.

Will this cutter work on corrugated steel panels?

Yes, it will cross-cut corrugated steel panels. However, because it is not a throatless shear, it cannot make continuous lengthwise cuts.

How long do the blades last?

Blades are expected to last approximately 1,750 linear feet when flipped midway through their life.

After both edges are used, replacement blades are recommended for optimal performance.

Replace the blade if you notice:

  • Increased cutting force
  • Rough or jagged cut edges
  • Inconsistent shearing performance
  • Visible wear on both cutting edges

Replacing the blade restores clean, corrosion-resistant cuts.

Why is a shearing cutter better than using an abrasive saw?

The shearing action creates a wiping effect on the zinc coating, which helps seal the cut edge and reduce corrosion risk.

Abrasive saws remove coating at the cut edge, increasing the likelihood of rust in the field.

Can the blade and die be sharpened?

While some users attempt sharpening, factory replacement blades are recommended to ensure proper cutting performance and edge quality.

Why are two leg lengths included?

Two leg lengths allow you to adjust the working height or accommodate different roof pitches for more ergonomic operation.
